Statement of faith

We are a confessional Lutheran church, grounded in the inspired and inerrant Word of God and the Lutheran Confessions. We believe in the Triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—and proclaim Jesus Christ as the world’s only Savior. By God’s grace alone, through faith in Christ, we receive forgiveness and eternal life through His Word and Sacraments. We gather to worship, grow in the truth, serve our neighbors, and faithfully proclaim the Gospel of Christ to the world.

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”

FAQs

What is a Lutheran?

Lutherans are Christians who believe that all Christian teachings should come from God’s Word, the Bible. We believe that the Bible is God’s Word. This means that everything the Bible teaches is correct and true. We believe that it is only through the Bible that we can know the one true God – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit – and His will for our lives.

What is Luthers Small Catechism?

The Catechism directs us to clear passages from God’s Word.  It distinguishes carefully between the two chief teachings of the Bible: the Law and the Gospel.  It also points to the only source for spiritual life, the Means of Grace: the Word and Sacraments.  Students of the Catechism should be led to see the importance of the truths from God’s Word for their lives and should grow in their deep appreciation for all that the Lord Jesus Christ has done as their Savior.

Why do we use the Creeds?
We confess the Apostles’, Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds as faithful summaries of the biblical faith, using them in worship to confess together the truth of God’s Word.
What is ELS?
Great Light Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS), united with fellow confessional Lutheran churches in a shared commitment to the truth of God’s Word and the Lutheran Confessions.
